Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians (Technicians) play a critical role in supporting the pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers, delivering an exceptional experience. They help ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations.

Technicians work as part of the pharmacy team through SOPs, best practices and effective communication, while contributing to a safe and inclusive culture.

Qualified candidates will complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Until all requirements are completed, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services; escalate or resolve patient problems as needed
  • Perform basic inventory activities, under direction of the pharmacy leadership team, such as stocking deliveries and completing cycle counts and related tasks
  • Support a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge
  • Maintain scheduling flexibility to meet business needs; may travel to stores as needed
  • Understand and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing) where lawful and supported by training and certification

Where permissible, the Technician may also support immunizations as described below.

Immunization Support (Where Permissible)
  • Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status to support vaccines
  • Educate patients about vaccines and refer vaccination questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty
  • Monitor for adverse reactions and report per public health requirements
  • Collect and document patient information and monitor vaccine supplies
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy (age, education, licensure/certification)
  • If a state does not specify a minimum age, candidate must be at least 16 years old
  • If a state does not specify a minimum educational requirement, candidate must have a high school diploma or be actively enrolled in high school or equivalent
  • State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state
