Base pay range
$50,425.00/yr – $61,548.00/yr

Description

  • Performs installation, maintenance and repair of existing plumbing fixtures, septic systems, water fountains, and irrigation systems.
  • Diagnoses and repairs heating systems, oil and gas burners, hot water, hot air and steam systems.
  • Plans, lays out and installs new plumbing fixtures according to applicable plumbing codes and regulations.
  • Operates light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors and other equipment as required.
  • Conducts inspections of facilities/equipment and makes recommendations for repairs or replacements.
  • Supervises and trains subordinate staff as assigned in the proper use of small hand tools, any specialized trade machinery, equipment and/or materials that are utilized in the maintenance of plumbing and heating systems.
  • Works from architectural blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Performs winterization and closing down of plumbing systems.
  • Conducts inspections of assigned areas for safety hazards and corrects problems where possible.
  • Performs installation of RPZ and testing of backflow prev enters.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Four years of full‑time experience in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson, equivalent to training in a training, apprenticeship or technical plumbing program, OR successful completion of the two‑year Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) traineeship or a two‑year plumbing apprenticeship program.
  • Successful completion of the traineeship includes 288 hours of trade‑specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math coursework, 45 hours of technical communications coursework, 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading coursework with an average of ‘C’ or better, and 4,000 hours of on‑the‑job training.
  • If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part‑time and volunteer experience.

Operating Needs

  • Selected candidate must possess a New York State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License by date of appointment.
  • Ability to prepare job estimates, maintain inventory and stock control, and order shop supplies.
  • Ability to utilize and train staff in the use of various tools and testing equipment, and supervise skilled, semi‑skilled and unskilled work crews.
  • Follow appropriate safety standards.
