Overview

The Precertification and Scheduling Coordinator collaborates with referring physician practices to obtain clinical information, verify patient insurance, obtain authorizations from insurance companies, and schedule appointments following department policies and guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Handle precertification procedures by collecting insurance information and entering data into SMS.
  • Utilize the Insurance Eligibility Verification system and explain process to patients.
  • Verify insurance benefits/coverage by contacting insurance companies.
  • Obtain insurance information for procedural precertification.
  • Schedule patients and provide daily departmental schedule to patient transport and security.
  • Collect co‑pays and deductibles and post them in the finance system following HUMC cash collection/reconciliation procedure.
  • Process requests for medical records and pathology reports.
  • Enter computer data to ensure integrity of patient history and appointment files.
  • Identify patient population needs and modify care accordingly, including communicating with patients, parents, and primary caregivers at appropriate levels.
  • Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Experience with health insurance verifications and precertification procedures.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
Compensation

Minimum hourly rate: $23.97. Salary depends on experience, education, and other factors.
