Responsibilities- Coordinate all aspects of tests, procedures and surgeries under the direction and supervision of the practice supervisor or manager and physicians.
- Schedule procedures promptly, follow facility guidelines, order required equipment.
- Verify patient demographics, log insurance information, obtain coverage verification and pre‑certification.
- Coordinate procedure appointments with physicians’ calendars and adjust schedules as needed, communicating surgical preparation information to patients.
- Arrange co‑surgeons or assistants, cross‑schedule with other departments (e.g., lab, nuclear medicine).
- Ensure pre‑op procedures are followed: complete documentation, obtain medical clearance, coordinate pre‑admission testing, follow up on results.
- Maintain block‑time guidelines at each hospital.
- Coordinate required postoperative care under provider direction.
- Obtain surgical billing information, work with coding department to obtain appropriate codes, post and reconcile all surgical charges.
- Track all procedures and testing/pathology results.
- Provide excellent customer service, greet patients promptly and courteously, listen with empathy on calls and in person.
- Display cooperative interactions and accept responsibility for tasks.
- Adapt work schedule to meet practice needs, work additional hours if requested, clock in at designated start time, manage time efficiently.
- Perform assignments with efficiency and accuracy in a positive manner; may provide cross coverage within the Physician Services Division.
- Participate in surgical service meetings held at the hospitals.
- Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent, plus two years of related experience.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a changing environment.
- Two years of progressive experience in a medical office.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
- Knowledge of surgical coding (CPT and ICD‑10).
- CPR certification.
Minimum rate: $23.97 per hour. The posted rate is a good‑faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency.
