HJF is seeking a Mental Social Fitness Scientist to lead the development and delivery of training, curricula, and educational tools that translate emerging neuro-psych-social research into practical applications for military and DoD audiences. This scientist will integrate expertise in neuroscience, psychology, physiology, and social sciences to advance integrated human performance across sleep, fatigue management, stress optimization, performance psychology, and social fitness domains.

This position will be in support of the Advanced Research for Military Optimization, Readiness, and Rehabilitation (ARMORR) program. ARMORR is dedicated to optimizing Service Member health, readiness, and performance by translating evidence-based research into accessible educational resources, training programs, and curricula for military personnel, families, leaders, and health and performance professionals.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners.

HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of training, curricula, and educational tools (including articles, videos, graphics, and worksheets) that translate emerging neuro-psych-social research into practical, accessible learning experiences for Service Members, military families, leaders, and health and performance professionals. Evaluates new directions, trends, and stakeholder feedback to inform strategic planning for all educational content.
  • Assesses the needs of community and DoD stakeholders-including Service Members, military families, healthcare providers, performance professionals, military leadership, and students-to design, implement, and regularly update tailored presentations, workshops, and training sessions using a blend of in-person, virtual, and digital formats.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with DoD stakeholders to support the creation, piloting, dissemination, and adoption of educational tools, training programs, and curriculum innovations while increasing awareness and reach of these resources. Uses feedback and engagement to refine learning programs and guide long‑term content strategy.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with team members to develop joint, integrative educational products and curricula, ensuring instructional consistency, innovation, and alignment with project objectives.
  • Serves as a recognized subject matter expert, providing direct support and expert answers to inquiries on neuro‑psych‑social fitness topics, and guidance on curriculum, tool use, and training implementation for DoD audiences.
  • Engages in scholarly writing, white paper development, and knowledge translation projects that directly inform the content and delivery of training programs and educational resources.
  • Supports the expansion and sustainability of educational initiatives by assisting with grant writing, preparing statements of work, developing budgets, and engaging with principal investigators and prospective clients to secure funding for ongoing training and curriculum development.
  • Completes special projects as needed, including rapid development or deployment of new training resources in response to emerging needs or operational priorities.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Education and Experience
  • Doctorate Degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or similar field required.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years' experience required.
