Job Summary

The Public Relations Manager (PR Manager) will be responsible for driving awareness of Choice Hotels’ portfolio of brands—including but not limited to Radisson, Radisson Blu, Cambria Hotels, the Ascend Hotel Collection, Comfort, Country Inn & Suites, Everhome Suites, and Wood Spring Suites—and corporate priorities through consumer and trade media coverage. The PR Manager will act as a communications liaison to various internal business partners, assisting the Senior Manager, Public Relations in the project management, development, and tactical execution of public relations initiatives for Choice Hotels.

Leveraging industry trends, consumer insights and analytics, and business updates, the PR Manager will develop newsworthy story ideas for various audiences, including consumers, media, franchise owners, investors, and staff. The role has a strong cross‑functional interaction with Choice Hotels’ Brand, Development, Investor Relations, Legal, and Internal Communications teams as well as agency partners.

Responsibilities
  • Public Relations Support
    • Support the development and implementation of strategic public relation plans, driving awareness of Choice Hotels’ portfolio of brands and corporate priorities through consumer and trade media coverage.
    • Manage the day‑to‑day public relations activity for select brands, liaising with internal and external business partners, qualified vendors, and agencies about budgets, timelines, and objectives.
    • Proactively share potential story angles as well as partnership and activation ideas to help garner media coverage about Choice Hotels in target media outlets.
    • Maintain corporate communications calendar, awards list, and other documents.
  • Media Relations
    • Build and maintain relationships with a variety of consumer and trade media and influencers.
    • Monitor Media Relations inbox, vetting media requests, and fielding media inquiries.
    • Coordinate and staff interviews with Choice executives, key stakeholders, and members of the media as needed.
    • Manage influencer and media lists as needed.
  • Writing & Content Creation
    • Provide editorial support, leading the drafting and fact‑checking of PR collateral, including but not limited to press releases, media advisories, briefing books, bios, fact sheets, key messages, quotes, FAQs, and written interviews.
    • Manage deadlines and key deliverables, as well as quality control and editorial review of content.
    • Fulfill internal requests for content, including talking points and visual assets for presentations as needed.
  • Reporting & Measurement
    • Monitor coverage of Choice Hotels and oversee the creation and distribution of the Daily New Monitor and Media Monitoring Report.
    • Compile campaign recaps, as well as monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed.
  • Crisis Communications
    • Work with supervisors to manage crisis situations, as needed.
  • Administration
    • Implement departmental operational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
    • Travel, attend, and staff events as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Employment Experience
    • At least 4 years’ relevant experience working in a public relations or marketing communications environment.
    • Experience in a corporate and/or a PR agency setting (agency experience—at or above a Senior Account Executive level—is a plus).
    • Demonstrated public relations experience.
    • Ability to project manage, multi‑task, and juggle multiple demands and quickly shifting priorities.
    • Strong communications skills (verbal and non‑verbal skills, correspondence, writing and editorial ability). Familiarity with Associated Press style.
    • Solid organizational skills including excellent follow‑through and attention to details.
    • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to manage diverse relationships across various departments and levels of the organization, as well as external stakeholders.
    • Proven ability to build and maintain strong and productive agency relationships.
  • Technical Skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with Muck Rack, Cision/PR Newswire a plus.
