Job Description

A Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that products or services meet established quality standards and specifications. They perform visual, mechanical, and electrical inspections, tests, and audits to identify any defects or deviations from quality requirements. Inspectors use various tools and techniques to measure and evaluate the quality of materials, components, and finished products, document and report non‑conformities, and work closely with production teams to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.

They may also participate in the development and improvement of quality control processes and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform visual, mechanical and electrical inspections and testing of all equipment manufactured at Powell facilities according to Powell Standards.
  • Program and operate electronic equipment such as microprocessor‑based relays.
  • Energize Powell electrical products and other buyout equipment such as service panels, HVAC, battery chargers, UPS systems, etc.
  • Perform equipment failure investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Complete and maintain all test quality control documentation as required.
  • Maintain test equipment and perform necessary maintenance.
  • Conduct tests using equipment such as multimeters, clamp‑on meters, voltage detectors, Hi‑Pot, etc.
  • Collaborate with all departments (shop, engineering, sales, shipping, fabrication, PCR, switch gear) and customers to resolve quality‑related issues.
  • Engage with all departments during production, final inspection and final release to shipping.
  • Maintain external relationships with other Powell subsidiaries, suppliers, and customers.
  • Record engineering and shop discrepancies, non‑conformities and material shortages utilizing Powell systems.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
  • Maintain clean and well‑organized work areas.
  • Learn and understand basic electrical principles and relevant mechanical experience.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma, or a trade school diploma or certificate.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read prints including specification sheets, wiring diagrams, schematics, three‑line drawings, wiring lists, and part drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in quality inspection for electrical or electronic equipment or components.
  • Intermediate experience working with industry codes and standards, and ability to refer to applicable codes.

Working & Environmental Conditions

Safety‑sensitive position in a temperature‑controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities. Required to always wear personal protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses, respirators) as required. Working at a desk and computer in an office environment is required. Must be able to work on various types of ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights usually not higher than 30 feet.

Continuous standing, walking 50–300 feet for long periods with only occasional sitting. Ability to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift and work with both arms above shoulders. Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, power tools (some vibrating), and exert a force continuously up to 50 lbs.
