Lead person Mechanical Assembly – Powell
Lead person Mechanical Assembly at Powell is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the assembly process of products in a manufacturing setting. The Lead Assembler supervises a team of assemblers, ensures production targets are met, and maintains quality standards. The role includes training new assemblers, troubleshooting assembly issues, and implementing process improvements in collaboration with engineering and quality assurance.
Essential Responsibilities- Train employees and assist in new employee training plans.
- Communicate and delegate daily priorities to other employees.
- Release jobs to QA/QC.
- Write purchase requisitions and order parts.
- Lead and mentor 6S and continuous improvement projects, including Kaizen events.
- Lead quality initiatives.
- Communicate within the department and with other departments to resolve issues and drive timely completion of jobs.
- Review bill of materials and drawings for issues.
- Assist in interviews and new hire selection.
- Identify training needs for the group and help develop appropriate training plans.
- Assist in tracking job efficiency and productivity.
- Assist in employee evaluation process.
- Lead safety and quality meetings.
- Support enforcement of Powell's policies and safety program.
- High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent preferred.
- 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of system software (Oracle, MES, True View) for parts and drawings lookup.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs using proper techniques.
- Knowledge of engineering change orders.
- Read and understand specification sheets and follow proper use of hardware.
- Advanced knowledge of one‑line and three‑line drawings, including symbols.
- Ability to identify part discrepancies and write HFDs for corrections.
- Knowledge of mechanical drawings and designs.
- Ability to complete complex engineering changes.
- Self‑starter who can manage multiple tasks with a focus on goals and responsibilities.
- Challenges the status quo and seeks better or more efficient methods.
- Adaptability to new ideas, technology, processes or product changes.
- Demonstrates integrity, ethical decision making, and reliability in job tasks.
- Works effectively within the team and with other departments.
- Adheres to all manufacturing policies and ISO requirements.
- Safety‑sensitive position in a temperature‑controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses, and respirators when required.
- Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, etc.).
- Work at heights usually no higher than 20 feet using proper lift equipment and fall protection.
- Maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, or ascending/descending stairs or step ladders.
- Perform bending, lifting, and using upper extremities frequently, including work above shoulder level.
- Continuous standing and walking.
- Use hand tools and power tools regularly.
- Lift up to 50 lbs as required.
