This position requires safely and accurately performing general property and vehicle maintenance & repair duties in and around shop operations in a fast‑paced environment. Knowledge and understanding of basic preventative maintenance and repair techniques of Class 5 through Class 8 commercial vehicles, including tank trailer inspection and maintenance related to FMCSA regulations, is required.
Essential Functions- Fleet mechanic apprentices receive hands‑on training and instruction on preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs of Class 5–8 commercial vehicles and tank trailer maintenance.
- Fleet mechanic levels I & II learn to use the company’s maintenance software to create and complete work orders and maintain repair records. They also train/assist other technicians.
- Fleet mechanic level III builds on duties from levels I & II and obtains necessary certifications to perform new‑technology evaluations, diagnosis and repairs.
- HM183 (DOT commercial motor vehicle inspector) performs inspections and complies with FMCSR regulations.
- Valid driver’s license.
- 1–5 years of heavy‑duty vehicle maintenance/repair experience (years and certifications determine level).
- Current Air Brake certification (FMSCR 396.25) or ability to obtain through KAG.
- EPA 609 (air‑conditioning) certification or ability to obtain through KAG.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Verifiable proof of at least 3 years as a tank‑testing commercial motor vehicle inspector (or 1 year under a qualified inspector) and ability to obtain DOT commercial motor vehicle inspector certification via KAG.
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs; lifting over 50 lbs must be assisted.
