Overview

The Department of Biological Sciences at Campbell University seeks a part-time Laboratory Instructor for Biology/Environmental Science Laboratory. Part-time instructors teach undergraduate biology labs; continuation may be possible in subsequent semesters based on departmental needs and student enrollment.

Responsibilities
  • Teach one or more sections of the laboratory course (up to a maximum of three lab sections per semester) for biology undergraduate courses, including:
  • Present pre-lab lecture and facilitate laboratory activities.
  • Interact with students, address questions, and manage lab materials.
  • Clean and resupply the lab, and maintain the lab space in working order.
  • Be available to lab section students outside scheduled lab time as needed.
  • Engage in weekly communication with the lab supervisor and participate in a weekly preparatory session as appropriate.
  • Assess lab work and maintain accurate student grades for lab reports, quizzes, lab notebooks, and practicals; manage student records in a timely and complete manner.
  • Communicate effectively with the supervisor, fellow TAs, lab instructors, and lecture instructors; submit grades at established times; assist with make-up labs if necessary; uphold Campbell University policies including Title IX and FERPA; and perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
  • BS in Biological Science (BIOL) or related science discipline, or successful completion of coursework and/or teaching experience in this area.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication across diverse groups.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Blackboard, and standard digital communication tools.
  • Willingness to learn and utilize new technology and software systems.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact respectfully with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; manage multiple activities and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a changing environment; uphold integrity and align with Campbell University’s mission.
