Job Description: The District Behavior Support Coach (BSC) is responsible for providing support and guidance to schools within the district in the areas of positive behavior support and mental health services. This role requires a strong background in K-12 counseling and expertise in current Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies. The District Behavior Coach collaborates with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to create and implement effective behavior management plans, promote positive school climates, and enhance the mental health and well-being of students.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Positive Behavior Supports:
  • Collaborate with school personnel to develop and implement comprehensive, school-wide behavior management systems based on positive behavior supports.
  • Provide training and professional development to teachers and staff on effective behavior management strategies, including proactive interventions and restorative practices.
  • Support schools in creating behavior intervention plans for individual students, including functional behavior assessments and behavior support plans.
  • Analyze behavior data, identify trends, and make recommendations for adjustments to intervention strategies as needed.
  • Monitor the fidelity of implementation of behavior support plans and provide ongoing coaching and feedback to school staff.
  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL):
  • Stay up-to-date with current research and best practices in SEL and mental health support for students.
  • Assist schools in implementing evidence-based SEL programs and strategies, incorporating them into daily instruction and school-wide practices.
  • Provide professional development and guidance to teachers on integrating SEL into their curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Collaborate with school counselors and other support staff to address the social-emotional needs of students through targeted interventions and counseling services.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school climate that fosters student well-being and connectedness.
  • Mental Health Services:
  • Work closely with school counselors and mental health professionals to ensure that students have access to appropriate mental health support.
  • Assist in the identification and referral of students in need of additional mental health services, collaborating with external agencies and resources as necessary.
  • Provide training and support to school staff on recognizing signs of mental health concerns and implementing appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Assist in crisis response and intervention, working with school personnel and outside agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
  • Facilitate partnerships with community organizations and resources to enhance mental health services available to students and families.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development:
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to create a cohesive and supportive network for behavior management and mental health support.
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment by facilitating regular meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities for school staff.
  • Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to behavior management and mental health services in education.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in behavior management, SEL, and mental health support.
  • Serve as a resource and guide administrators and district personnel on behavior-related matters.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree/Master's preferred
  • Five years of successful experience working in K-12 education, preferably in a counseling or behavior support role (or an equivalent)
  • In-depth knowledge of behavior management strategies, positive behavior supports, and restorative practices.
