This position is based at the Hampton Farms location in Severn, NC.
Job PurposeWe are looking for an entry-level 3D Draftsman to support the design and development of equipment, layouts, and systems in our food processing facilities. The candidate will use 3D modeling software to create detailed technical drawings and assist engineers with plant layout designs. This position provides hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced production environment with opportunities for professional growth in engineering and design.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Create and update 3D models and 2D drawings of equipment, piping systems, and plant layouts using CAD software (AutoCAD, Solid Works, or Inventor).
- Prepare detailed fabrication and installation drawings for mechanical components, piping, and supports.
- Assist engineers in the design and layout of food processing lines, ensuring proper spacing, safety, and sanitary design.
- Develop and maintain as‑built drawings, technical documentation, and revision records.
- Collaborate with engineers, maintenance, and project managers to resolve design issues and ensure accurate implementation.
- Incorporate food safety and hygiene principles into all design work in compliance with USDA, FDA, and 3‑A Sanitary Standards.
- Perform basic calculations, measurements, and design checks under supervision.
- Support the creation of BOMs (Bills of Materials) and coordinate with vendors or contractors as needed.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability and layout efficiency.
- Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design, Engineering or a related technical field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 3D, Solid Works, or Autodesk Inventor (training or coursework accepted).
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, piping, or industrial equipment would be a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn food industry standards and safety regulations.
- Good attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Occasional travel to different locations.
- Primarily office‑based, working extensively with CAD software to create and update technical drawings.
- Occasionally visits production areas or construction sites to take measurements, verify layouts, or assist with installations.
- May encounter typical food manufacturing conditions (humidity, temperature changes, machinery noise) and must wear appropriate PPE; standard Monday–Friday schedule with occasional overtime as needed.
- Regularly required to sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, or climb stairs during plant visits or field verifications.
- Must be able to lift, carry, or move objects up to 25 pounds, such as laptops, measurement tools, or small equipment parts.
