Research Vessel Captain

Overview

East Carolina University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Vessel Captain to join our Diving and Water Safety team. This full-time position is responsible for piloting ECU vessels in support of research and academic programs at the ECU main campus in Greenville, NC and at the ECU Outer Banks Campus in Wanchese, NC. The position may be located in Greenville or Wanchese.

The Captain will utilize marine research and fisheries techniques and knowledge of coastal and inland North Carolina waterways. The Captain is responsible for vessel maintenance and repair, including outboard and diesel engines. The position also assists in overseeing University boating safety and training.

• Pilot ECU vessels in support of research and academic programs at both the Greenville and Wanchese campuses.
• Maintain and repair vessels, including outboard and diesel engines.
• Utilize marine research and fisheries techniques and knowledge of coastal/inland North Carolina waterways.
• Assist in overseeing university boating safety and training.

• US Coast Guard Master’s Licensure for tonnage required for operation of the vessel(s) intended for use.

• Full-time position
• Anticipated hiring range: $65,076 – $70,000
