We are seeking an experienced and detail‑oriented Quality Engineer to drive continuous improvement and ensure product and process excellence through the implementation and oversight of the Quality Management System (QMS). This role provides essential support to manufacturing operations, leads problem‑solving efforts, maintains certification standards, and serves as a key liaison for internal and external quality‑related matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead customer returns problem‑solving activities, perform FMEA, develop control plans, and complete 8D reports to implement corrective actions.
- Utilize the Danfoss Business System (equivalent to PDCA), dedicating 25–30% of time to continuous improvement initiatives; participate in meetings, report on quality metrics, analyze data, and support Kaizen and rapid improvement events.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards, maintaining certification and supporting audits.
- Conduct capability studies and MSA to validate processes and measurement systems.
- Support new product launches through Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and document PPAP submissions.
- Maintain quality records, control plans, PFMEA, and critical process data collection.
- Provide training on quality tools, procedures, and standards.
- Collaborate with Engineering and cross‑functional teams on quality‑related projects.
- Lead and support the application of continuous improvement methodologies, prepare and present reports and metrics.
This position is full time, 1st shift, reporting to the Quality Manager, located at our Forest City, NC facility. Domestic relocation support may be provided. Work authorization support is not available.
Qualifications Background & SkillsThe ideal candidate possesses the following skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering OR equivalent experience (for experienced professionals: 5+ years of quality engineering experience with 10+ years of manufacturing experience and active pursuit of an engineering degree).
- Proficient knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 (training available for new graduates).
- Strong understanding of quality tools: FMEA, SPC, DOE, APQP, 8D.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office; familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Strong working knowledge of Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and lean tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving, project management, and technical reporting skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence cross‑functional teams.
- Comfortable communicating with all organizational levels and external stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced, customer‑driven environment.
- Willingness to engage in hands‑on tasks, including inspection, rework, and audits.
- Capable of lifting up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to work in typical manufacturing environments (dust, noise, etc.).
- Experience in a quality engineering or manufacturing role (preferred but not required for recent graduates).
- Internship or project experience in quality control, process improvement, or manufacturing operations.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience in extrusion or hose manufacturing environments.
