TAX COLLECTIONS SPECIALIST, GRADE 59
The Wilkes County Tax Department has an opening in the Collections Department. This is an entry level position that involves taking the necessary steps to collect taxes, including delinquent property taxes in accordance with State laws governing these activities. This person will be trained in all the daily activities of the Collection’s office, which includes taking payments, handling the mail and balancing the drawer.
This may also include garnishing wages and attaching bank accounts. Work is performed under the supervision of the Collections Supervisor and is evaluated through observation, compliance with laws and policies and feedback from taxpayers.
The job requires knowledge of general accounting principles, money handling and computer skills, and to be 10-key calculator proficient. Individual work initiative and considerable tact working with the public is needed. Graduation from a two-year college and 1 to 3 years of experience in accounting, banking or related business or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the necessary skills and abilities needed to perform the job.
Considerable experience involving customer service is required. Experience in tax assessment is desirable. The hiring rate is $33,323.00. Possession of a valid NC driver’s license and a back-ground check are required. Open until filled.
