Controller – Family Office
North Jersey / Hybrid
$175k – $225k
A family office based in North Jersey is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations across a diversified portfolio of operating entities and investments. This role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and providing ownership with clear, timely financial visibility.
Responsibilities- Own day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities, including general ledger, journal entries, and month-end close
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
- Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, and banking relationships
- Oversee account reconciliations and ensure accuracy across all balance sheet accounts
- Coordinate with external accountants on tax filings, audits, and related compliance matters
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to ownership and senior stakeholders
- Partner closely with ownership to deliver clear insight into financial performance and key drivers
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong private accounting background
- Experience in a multi-entity environment; family office, real estate, or investment-related experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to own the full accounting function with a high degree of autonomy
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience working with external CPAs, tax advisors, and financial institutions
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-through skills
- Ability to distill complex financial data into clear, actionable reporting
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with ownership
- Hands‑on, accountable, and comfortable operating in a lean environment
- Professional judgment, discretion, and high level of integrity
