Position Overview
Public Safety Telecommunicators – temporary role (2025‑2026). Responsible for dispatching law enforcement & emergency resources, monitoring campus security systems, and maintaining communication logs.

Purpose:
To ensure preservation of peace and public safety through deployment of dispatchers and support to campus police and emergency services.
- Dispatch law enforcement and other emergency resources, initiating notifications and documenting activities.
- Remain cognizant of pending calls, priorities, and status of on‑duty personnel.
- Monitor campus security via closed‑circuit cameras and emergency notification kiosks.
- Assess emergencies, identify required services, and initiate appropriate response protocols.
- Maintain accurate daily logs of all Police & Public Safety Department related response activities.
- Operate and troubleshoot communications equipment, including multi‑line phone systems, police consoles, radios, scanners, CCTV, and DCI terminals.
- Provide post‑normal business hour information point for university‑related questions and walk‑in assistance.
- Serve as a receptionist and perform various clerical duties as needed.
- Communicate efficiently under pressure, speak concisely and distinctly, and make quick decisions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Must obtain North Carolina DCI certification within 90 days of start date.
- Preferred: DCI and NCIC certification.
- Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules, State law, UNCP Policy, and Criminal Information and Identification Section regulations.
- Ability to operate complex communications technology and maintain logs.
- Experience working in high‑stress environments and maintaining confidentiality.
