OverviewDeliver high-quality respiratory care to diverse patient groups while adhering to departmental policies, performing approved procedures, maintaining equipment, and educating patients and staff.
Responsibilities- Adhere to hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment using effective communication and teamwork.
- Provide respiratory therapies following age-appropriate standards of care and departmental policies throughout the hospital.
- Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation and airway support following age-appropriate standards of care.
- Report routine clinical procedures regarding patients to relief personnel to ensure continuity of care.
- Perform and maintain competency for point-of-care testing, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
- Provide invasive and non-invasive monitoring to ensure patient safety and appropriate care.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge and pursue quality improvement to enhance service to customers.
- Ensure age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
- Graduate of an AMA-approved two- or four-year respiratory care program or meet NBRC admission policies for registry examinations.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and licensed to practice as a RCP in North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Emergency Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Newborn Resuscitative (NRP) required within 90 days of employment.
- Emergency Adult Advanced Life Support (ACLS) required within 90 days of employment.
