JobPurpose And Summary
Our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence within each pharmacy worked by acting as a role model for all, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team. As a DSP you help deliver our purpose, model our values, and provide authentic care for patients. You cover pharmacist scheduling gaps and support pharmacy teams under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager and Rx District Leader.
The DSP’s responsibilities include:
- Living our purpose by helping to manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Traveling the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled, overseeing the pharmacy and serving as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts without overlap.
- Supporting safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and using safety guardrails at every workstation.
- Assuming pharmacy manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
- Contributing to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care and coaching the pharmacy team to do the same.
- Proactively offering and delivering immunizations to keep patients healthy; engaging and supporting Pharmacy Technicians to learn to immunize.
- Managing pharmacy inventory by following best practices, with a special focus on protecting cold chain products.
- Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs while contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
- Maintaining relevant clinical and technical skills and continually expanding knowledge to better support patients.
- Supporting access to care and improving patient outcomes through pharmacist delivered clinical care, such as testing and prescribing services.
- Understanding and complying with all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, and following CVS Health policies and procedures.
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
- Ability to travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as business needs require.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe.
- Attention and Focus:
Concentrate on tasks over time, pivot quickly between tasks, and confirm prescription information and label accuracy. - Customer Service and Team Orientation:
Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner, notice patients’ reactions, and respond appropriately. - Communication
Skills:
Use verbal and written communication effectively and practice active listening. - Mathematical Reasoning:
Use math to solve problems such as determining the total number of tablets or bottles needed. - Problem Resolution:
Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action. - Physical Demands:
Be mobile, lift, reach, and perform repetitive finger movements; lift up to 20 lbs as needed. - Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
- 1-2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
