Lead is a hands‑on operational lead responsible for the sorting and testing of computer hardware
. This role combines technical hardware expertise
, strong organizational skills
, and process ownership to ensure accuracy and efficiency in sorting, testing, and routing of computer hardware devices.
This individual plays a critical role in building and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and driving continuous improvement in a fast‑paced technology operations environment.
Key Responsibilities Device Sorting & Testing- Lead the daily sorting and categorization of incoming IT hardware, including laptops, desktops, monitors, chargers, peripherals, and networking equipment
- Perform device testing, grading, functional validation, and triage
- Ensure accurate identification, labeling, and routing of hardware through defined workflows
- Troubleshoot hardware issues and determine repair, refurbish, resale, or recycle paths
- Maintain accurate inventory tracking within internal systems and tools
- Conduct regular cycle counts and audits to ensure data integrity
- Coordinate inbound hardware movement with the receiving team
- Ensure proper asset tagging, serialization, and documentation
- Build, document, and maintain hardware processing SOPs and workflows
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process optimization
- Ensure compliance with internal quality, data security, and environmental standards
- Act as a lead resource on the floor
, providing informational updates on inbound supply - Train team members on hardware standards, testing procedures, and SOPs as needed
- Communicate daily productivity and inventory reporting
- Escalate issues related to quality, safety, or process deviations as needed
- Enforce quality control standards at every stage of processing
- Ensure adherence to data security protocols and handling requirements
- Promote a clean, organized, and safe production environment
- Support audits and inspections as required
- 2+ years of experience working with computer hardware in a production, ITAD, refurbishment, or warehouse environment.
- Prior
lead or computer hardware technician experience preferred - Strong working knowledge of laptops, desktops, monitors, chargers, and networking equipment
- Experience with hardware testing, grading, and inventory tracking
- Experience with asset management or inventory systems desired
- Quality inspection and documentation
- Demonstrated ability to build or improve operational processes
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of data destruction or IT asset life-cycle best practices is desired
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs., stand, bend, and move throughout the production floor for extended periods

The expected salary for this position is $16.00-$18.00 per hour. Upon conversion, PlanITROI offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, a 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and more.
