The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

** Description of Work
** This Correction Enterprise Supervisor II (CES II) position is located at the Correction Enterprise Sign Plant in Bunn, NC.
The primary purpose of this position is to supervise, train, and evaluate employees and inmate workers engaged in the production of different types of signs used to mark the highways and streets in North Carolina. This position supervises a variety of technical processes that must meet specific specifications and warranty requirements of NC DOT and the Federal Highway Administration.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervises two subordinate staff and approximately 30 offenders - Communicates with NC DOT concerning layout drawings that contain defects - Schedules work production and prepares numerous reports necessary to achieve accurate financial statements - Prepares a variety of written reports concerning raw material inventory - Conducts visual and audio surveillance of plant operations to ensure the custody and security of inmates and facility - Assists plant management in other work assignments as needed Work is in an environment which may involve exposure to noise, dust, fumes, dangerous machinery, chemicals, body fluids, and falling objects.
This may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, protective clothing, etc.
The successful candidate must complete and pass COBT to become certified within one year of being hired. All DPS employees may be subject to reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

** Training and supervision of subordinate staff
* Knowledge and operation of various types of manufacturing equipment
* Experience operating medium/heavy machinery (i.e. forklift)
* Custody, supervision, safety and training of offenders.

Qualifications:
** Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Click for specific certification requirements.
* Must be at least 20 years of age and a citizen of the United States.
* Must possess a valid driver's license.
* Pass Psychological testing as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
* Pass Physical Examination as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
* Pass Drug Screening as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
* Attend and successfully complete (6) weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) at a Training Facility. Employees shall be scheduled for BCOT during their 2nd week of employment.
