Anson County Wastewater Treatment Plant OperatorSalary Grade 60: ($33,453 - $35,124)
General Description of DutiesPerforms a variety of operational, laboratory, and maintenance duties designed to provide safe disposal of domestic and commercial waste materials. Work includes monitoring the plant’s operation through observation, mechanical readings and the results of standard chemical and biological tests to make necessary adjustments in the process as conditions or test results dictate. Other duties include assisting with plant and facilities maintenance and substantial record keeping of work activities.
Employees are subject to hazards associated with plant operations including working both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases and poor ventilation. Workers may be required to wear respirators when working around chemical tanks.
High school diploma or GED. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license. Experience in the operation and maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment plant preferred.
Special RequirementsCertified as a Grade I Wastewater Operator within 1 year of hire. The Wastewater Treatment Plant is a 7 day-a-week operation that will require weekend, holiday and variable shift hours. Pre-employment drug testing and criminal background check required.
Physical DemandsMust be physically able to operate a variety of machinery, equipment and tools including computers, calculators, radios, typewriters, compactors, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other parts of body to grasp, push or otherwise move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to read gauges, dials, and observe moving parts of machines, and to record and review written records.
