Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Quality, Food Safety, and R&D Technical, the Food Scientist will perform innovation development projects and initiatives for peanut‑derived food ingredients, and quality and food safety initiatives. The position works with customers to provide solutions to meet both internal and external customer needs. The Food Scientist will also be responsible for developing and maintaining customer specifications on products for the category, communicating with the customers and developing working specifications, and providing technical documentation to the customers.

This position will perform required analysis of the food, ingredients, raw and finished goods, analyze data, interpret results, and write reports.

The ideal candidate for this position should be comfortable collaborating with members of the quality team, innovation management and internal stakeholders on key projects, as well as working independently to ensure deadlines are met. They should work well under multiple competing demands and be able to successfully manage workload.

Position Responsibilities
  • Develop new and refine existing nut‑based ingredients.
  • Partner with local and corporate management, production, quality, regulatory, sales and customers as it relates to new and existing products.
  • Coordinate with the customer’s technical resource on product performance, product specifications and the end use of all nut ingredients.
  • Assist customer with technical questions and maintain customer informational databases.
  • Understand the current food and ingredient trends for new products, new process developments within the industry and competitor capability as it applies.
  • Coordinate with a global Innovation team to provide updates and assist in cross‑functional projects.
  • Must be able to transition the product from a purely lab environment to production, including communication with the plant operations team.
  • Support engineering of new processes and assist with existing process refinement, including writing standard operating procedures and other technical documents.
  • Assist in the process of rework/addback and troubleshooting production challenges.
  • Assist with the direction and supervision of quality and food safety resources as it applies to this job function.
  • Perform and/or assist with Root Cause Analysis investigations and Corrective Action implementation.
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints.
  • Serve as a member of the plant Food Safety Team and assist in the completion of regulatory/customer audits, follow‑on corrective actions, and other quality and food safety initiatives and tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry, or related field is required.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience in the food industry is preferred. Experience in food and ingredient development is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of basic food processing is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills are required.
