Work Schedule: Full-Time, mid-shift 11am-11pm with rotating weekends

Responsibilities
  • Delivers direct and indirect care to Emergency Department patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Interacts with patients, significant others, and other health team members to coordinate total patient care.
  • Maintains professional and unit-specific standards of care.
  • Manages time to accommodate patient and unit priorities.
Qualifications Education and Training
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Program and hold a current valid license to practice nursing in North Carolina.
  • Completion of general and job-specific orientation program within expected timeframe.
  • Current certification in BCLS, PALS, NIHSS, ACLS, and ASLS. New employees will be expected to attain current certification as defined by hospital policy.
Experience
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in medical-surgical and/or critical care nursing is preferred.
  • Previous experience in ER nursing is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times.
  • Actively functions as a patient advocate.
  • Thorough knowledge of patient assessment techniques, treatment techniques, and operation/maintenance of unit equipment (IV pumps, cardiac monitors, defibrillator, computer terminals, printers, and FAX machines).
  • Knowledge of current hospital emergency policies and procedures, including CPR; knowledge of fire safety, disaster, and infection control policies.
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills; ability to respond to changing workloads and perform accurately in crisis and emergency situations when time is critical.
  • Uses support staff in an efficient and cost-conscious manner.
