Hours:

7 pm–7 am, days will vary. No supervisory responsibilities, no travel. Pay commensurate with experience. PRN, night shift position in the Float Pool department.

Job Summary

Our Nursing team member’s primary goal is to provide the most remarkable patient experience while delivering professional nursing services in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. The RN follows the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation. The RN collaborates with physicians and the multidisciplinary team to provide physical and psychological support to patients and families while adhering to hospital policies and nursing standards.

The RN in the Emergency Department provides care for patients with various illnesses or traumas requiring emergency attention, recognizing and treating life‑saving conditions. The float nurse similarly provides such care.

Experience

Minimum job qualifications:

  • Recent medical‑surgical, emergency or critical care experience.
License / Certifications
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of NC.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • ACLS Certification obtained during orientation period.
  • PALS Certification obtained within 3 months.
Essential Functions
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to patients, families and friends.
  • Provide direct, professional nursing care to patients.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies.
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment.
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments specific to ER.
  • Administer medications using the electronic health record and scanning process.
  • Document, monitor and report symptoms and changes in patient status.
  • Provide patient education of illness/disease and promote health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and other team members.
  • Perform a head‑to‑toe assessment and reassessments for all age groups.
  • Interact professionally with patients/families and provide explanation and verbal reassurance.
  • Formulate and update an individualized plan of care for each patient.
  • Assume the role of patient advocate.
  • Comply with protocols, procedures and policies.
  • Knowledge of cardiac monitoring, rhythm interruption and appropriate treatment.
  • Prioritize nursing care and use critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of proper dosing and administration of critical medications.
  • Document all nursing care data concisely, accurately and completely in a timely manner, using the appropriate format.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with all hospital staff, visitors, families and physicians.
  • Be flexible, organized and able to function under stressful and emergency situations.
  • Exhibit professionalism at all times, showing respect and dignity to all.
  • Participate with orientation and training of new personnel and act as a resource and mentor in a professional manner.
  • Participate in special assignments and quality improvement projects.
  • Float between multiple departments at varying times; may float several times during a shift to fill greater need.
  • Demonstrate initiative in personal growth and seek out learning opportunities.
  • Promote teamwork by supporting all departments and assignments equally.
  • Maintain competency in all departments where required to float.

Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.). All new employees must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment unless exempt.
