AboutThis Opportunity
The Social Worker III – After Hours provides essential social work services to children, families, and vulnerable adults who are experiencing urgent or complex situations outside the agency’s normal business hours. This position responds to reports involving Adult Protective Services (APS) and Child Protective Services (CPS), assesses immediate safety concerns and risk factors, initiates investigations and assessments, and coordinates timely interventions to protect at-risk individuals.
Key duties include conducting home visits and interviews, completing case initiations and follow-up activities, maintaining accurate and timely documentation, and collaborating closely with supervisors, law enforcement, service providers, and community partners. This role requires strong independent judgment, sound decision-making, and the ability to respond effectively to sensitive and time-critical situations.
This position provides after-hours coverage for both APS and CPS, ensuring the Department fulfills its responsibility to offer services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The work schedule operates on a rotating basis: seven days on, seven days off. The on-call rotation begins Friday at 3:30 p.m. and ends the following Friday at 8:30 a.m., including weekends and holidays as needed.
Compensation includes a $2.50 per-hour shift differential, overtime when applicable, and pager pay for on-call availability. This role offers flexibility to work remotely and in the field during assigned shifts. An agency vehicle is provided for work-related duties.
We are seeking candidates with a strong foundation in social work principles and practice, including assessment methods and the laws and policies governing adult and child protective services. The ideal candidate will be skilled in assessing immediate safety concerns, determining risk, and implementing appropriate interventions in urgent situations. Strong communication, documentation, organizational, and critical-thinking skills are essential, as is the ability to build effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, law enforcement, service providers, and community partners.
Successful candidates will be compassionate, ethical, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining clear and accurate records. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and navigate various computer programs and databases are also important.
This position requires availability to work the assigned rotating on-call schedule and to respond to emergencies as they arise. A significant portion of the work involves conducting home visits, interviewing clients and families, and engaging directly within the community.
