Position Summary

The Assistant Football Coach supports all aspects of the Campbell University Football program, including on‑field instruction, practice preparation, scouting, game planning, and student‑athlete development. The coach manages assigned recruiting territories, evaluates prospective student‑athletes, and contributes to the program’s academic, cultural, and competitive success. This is a full‑time, 12‑month position that requires adherence to all University, CAA, and NCAA rules and expectations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • In Season
    • Coach and instruct student‑athletes on the field in assigned position group.
    • Lead meetings focused on football instruction, character development, academic accountability, and leadership.
    • Assist the Head Coach with creating scouting reports, film breakdown, and weekly game plans.
    • Participate in in‑game adjustments and strategy discussions.
  • Off Season
    • Mentor student‑athletes and support their academic, personal, and leadership development.
    • Assist with quality control reports, self‑scouting, and off‑season program development.
    • Recruit prospective student‑athletes through evaluation, communication, campus visits, and relationship building in assigned territories.
  • Program‑wide Responsibilities
    • Assist the Head Coach with recruiting, administration, film evaluation, and on‑field instruction while adhering to all university, CAA, and NCAA regulations.
    • Analyze practice and game video; contribute to the development of training strategies; and teach student‑athletes proper techniques and fundamentals.
    • Support academic monitoring and collaborate with campus partners to ensure student‑athlete well‑being and success.
    • Communicate and, at times, work closely with other departments on campus such as academic advising, residence life, admissions, sports information, campus recreation, compliance, athletic training, and strength and conditioning.
    • Uphold professionalism, integrity, and the mission and values of Campbell University in all duties.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletics administration.
    • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, Title IX and Information Security (FERPA and other state and federal guidelines).
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree desired.
  • At least 2 years of college coaching experience with proven recruiting at the NCAA Division I level desired.
  • Experience competing as an NCAA Division I Football athlete desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Professional, effective communication orally and in writing with student‑athletes and others.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to teach the game of football at a high level in a university setting.
  • Attention to detail and strict confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Applications, digital communication, and common social media platforms.
  • Demonstrate tact, positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with student‑athletes, parents, staff, opposing coaches and players, officials, and the public.
  • Work independently and effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to work in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work regular evening or weekend hours; travel, including overnight stays.
  • Uphold accuracy, honesty, integrity and align with the Christian mission of Campbell University.
