Position Summary

The Director of Development will lead all fundraising efforts to sustain and grow our organization, including major gifts, annual giving, donor relations, grants management, and special events. This role requires a strategic, relationship-driven leader with demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising and the ability to build a robust, diversified funding pipeline.

The Director of Development will join the senior leadership team and play a critical role in ensuring financial stability and mission expansion.

Key Responsibilities Fundraising Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual strategic fundraising plan aligned with organizational goals.
  • Set clear revenue targets and oversee all development programs to meet or exceed annual budgets.
  • Provide regular development reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Major Gifts & Donor Cultivation
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors with the capacity to give major gifts.
  • Create personalized strategies for donor engagement and long-term relationship management.
  • Conduct donor prospect research and maintain a robust major donor pipeline.
Annual Giving & Small Donor Programs
  • Oversee annual giving campaigns, monthly donor programs, and digital fundraising strategies.
  • Develop compelling donor communications that articulate mission, impact, and giving opportunities.
Grant Writing & Foundation Relations
  • Research, identify, and pursue new foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities.
  • Write, submit, and track grant proposals and reports, ensuring compliance and high-quality submissions.
  • Maintain relationships with foundation program officers and funders.
Event Planning & Fundraising Initiatives
  • Lead and execute all fundraising events, including the annual gala, community-based events, and donor appreciation gatherings.
  • Manage event budgets, sponsorship packages, vendor relations, and event committees.
  • Innovate new event opportunities that increase visibility and revenue.
Donor Stewardship & Communications
  • Ensure prompt and meaningful donor recognition, stewardship touchpoints, and gift acknowledgments.
  • Oversee our Director of Marketing to produce newsletters, impact reports, social media content, and donor materials.
  • Uphold accurate CRM/database records and manage donor data analytics. (ex. Donor Dock)
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Serve as a key ambassador of the organization in the community.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board to strengthen fundraising culture and participation.
  • Supervise development staff and volunteers as applicable.
Qualifications
  • 5–7+ years of progressive fundraising experience, ideally in a nonprofit healthcare or human services setting.
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts and meeting annual revenue goals.
  • Exceptional grant writing and storytelling skills.
  • Experience planning and executing fundraising events of varying size.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and networking skills.
  • Ability to work strategically, collaboratively, and independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with donor CRM systems (e.g., Donor Dock or Raiser's Edge).
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CFRE or advanced degree preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
