Diesel Technician Mechanic

Position:
Permanent Full‑Time Experienced Diesel Technician to support our truck fleet at Ryder in North Charleston, SC.

• SBTIII trained within 180 days (SBT
  220)
• Complete all OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses required by location fleet mix (completed within 365 days)
• Complete instructor‑led OEM courses required to support location fleet mix
• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal support
• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers/software as applicable
• Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solutions for roadside breakdowns
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaints once assigned a task
• Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics
• Coach/mentor other level technicians
• Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
• Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Other support duties as required to support operations, including but not limited to Service Island support

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Diagnostics and repairs including AC, electrical systems
• Advanced skilled level repairs, such as some major engine repairs, diesel after‑treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs (required)
• Four (4) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
• All other certifications required by location (required)

• Ability to perform all T3 tasks
• Demonstrated advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Basic computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Availability to work shift work/weekends and on‑call duty as required
• Preferred ASE Certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, electrical, electronics or ASE Master Mechanic
• Required to operate shop computers and diagnostic test equipment proficiently
• Must have minimum tool requirement
• Must road test vehicles as necessary
• Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor/influence others
• Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)

• Hourly Pay: $34.00 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification, up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter – four times per year
• Sign‑On Bonus: $3,000 at 30 days and $3,000 at 90 days
• Schedule:
  
  Tuesday through Saturday (First Shift Tuesday–Friday 5:00 am–1:00 pm; Saturday 7:00 am–3:30 pm)
• Annual merit pay increases every year
