A nationally recognized general contractor headquartered in the Chicago area with over $200 million in annual revenue is seeking an Estimator to join its growing preconstruction team. The firm has a strong national presence, delivering complex projects across the hospitality, retail, office, industrial, multifamily, and mixed-use sectors.
About the RoleThe Estimator will play a key role in the preconstruction phase—developing accurate budgets, analyzing project scopes, and collaborating with owners, architects, and subcontractors to ensure competitive and well‑documented pricing. This position provides an opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of commercial and multifamily projects, from early conceptual estimates through construction documents.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and detailed estimates, including quantity take‑offs and budget breakdowns.
- Review drawings, specifications, and schedules to determine project scope, logistics, and phasing strategies.
- Develop subcontractor and material supplier bid lists, solicit proposals, and analyze bids for scope and completeness.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, and engineers to identify cost‑saving opportunities and implement value engineering strategies.
- Participate in client meetings, owner presentations, and preconstruction hand‑offs with project teams.
- Maintain historical cost databases, supplier contacts, and current pricing information for use in future estimates.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
- 3–8 years of estimating or preconstruction experience, ideally with a general contractor.
- Experience preparing detailed take‑offs, subcontractor bid packages, and GMP estimates.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
This position will primarily focus on retail expansion and remodel programs throughout the Midwest, East Coast, and Southeast
