Job Description:
Serve as Process Engineer within the Abb Vie Technical Operations function at the North Chicago Manufacturing site. Resolve issues associated with commercial API products and processes, including introduction of new products to the North Chicago site. Provide technical support to cross‑functional teams within and outside the site during development, commercial launch or problem solving for a given API. Accountable for test results, project reports, and experiments in support of process development, validation activities and technical transfers while maintaining the highest standards in quality, customer service and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate and integrate relevant engineering advances for improving or solving problems.
- Understand the business implications of assigned products and processes and identify engineering solutions compatible with business needs.
- Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses related to project outcomes.
- Apply scientific knowledge to projects; determine priorities for experiments. Independently design and execute experiments.
- Assure experimental quality through sound, independent, experimental design.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and provide technical direction and feedback to others. May supervise interns and/or EPDP engineers.
- Present results of projects, internally and externally. Participate in project planning, process updates; contribute to experimental design.
- Develop productive collaborations and communication across functions.
- Be responsible for timely project completion. Design experiments and documentation independently.
- May act as lead engineer, project leader, or project contributor.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, science or related discipline desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with 5+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. Additional post‑graduate education may contribute toward desired years of experience.
- Demonstrated competency within a discipline.
- Possesses working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Ability to work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Demonstrates judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
- Listens to and understands others’ points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one’s own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
- Pharmaceutical experience desired.
- The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
