Position SummaryRosalind Franklin University Health Clinics is seeking to fill a full-time Billing Specialist. The Billing Specialist is responsible for gathering charge information, coding, entering charges into billing software, resolving outstanding balances with patients, and third-party payers to bring resolution to accounts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Research all information needed to complete the billing process including obtaining charge information from all providers
- Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software to include electronic and paper claims
- Review patient bills for accuracy, completeness, and obtain any missing information, when appropriate
- Follow-up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe
- Assist with coding and error resolution
- Review accounts for insurance and patient follow-up
- Investigate and appeal denied claims
- Call patients to collect on outstanding balances
- Answer all patient or insurance inquiries
- Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated
- Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check
- Compliance with the current clinic vaccination policy
- High school diploma or GED Equivalent
- Minimum two years of medical billing, coding and AR experience
- Knowledge of health care billing/coding practices, regulations, and laws
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Proficient in using computer programs and calculators
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks
- Ability to examine documents for accuracy
- Certification from a nationally recognized medical billing and coding certifying agency
- Experience with Athena
