Client SuitabilityDue to the nature of our work as a federal consulting organization, employees may be expected to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and must adhere to applicable safeguarding and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting tasks in support of IT customers, including setting up and maintaining computers and connecting/pulling cords from under desks and in server closets.
- Unpack, move, and install IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds (or greater with additional assistance).
- Traverse large VA site campuses while transporting equipment to various office buildings.
- Communicate directly with customers on site to diagnose and resolve hardware/software issues utilizing the Service Now tool, track and document all system changes, problems, issues, and work tasks within Service Now.
- Provision newly procured endpoints (desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices) – perform imaging, desktop support, adds/moves and changes.
- Install OS patches, upgrades and Commercially Available Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) software.
- Provide user management account support where Elevated Privileges (EP) may be required.
- Install and configure software applications based on change order instructions.
- Use log data and system administration tools to diagnose and repair hardware/software problems, re‑configure or replace defective components as indicated.
- Monitor and analyze assigned systems to discover risks and inadequacies, and provide recommendations on needed expansion, enhancement, or revision.
- Utilize Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and SCOM tools to troubleshoot performance issues and deploy software packages, including scripting, McAfee, and other VA standard tools.
- Perform inventory functions, managing pagers and turn‑ins, performing media sanitization, disposal, and/or turn in of equipment.
- Conduct routine audits of systems and software to determine utilization and adequacy for demand, and compliance with current hardware and software site license regulations and requirements.
- Perform general maintenance activities: printer deployment/repair, software installations, equipment refreshes, and occasionally pull old cables from server rooms as needed.
- Perform asset management: inventory, audit and tracking, asset administration and reporting, integrated IT asset portfolio, history and forecasting, automating the asset management process as necessary.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to achieve successful results with minimal guidance.
- HS diploma or GED and 8+ years of experience with system administration or BS degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or other engineering/technical discipline.
- Experience conducting routine system administration tasks and logging data in system admin logs.
- Experience troubleshooting a wide variety of systems and networks, including high volume or high availability systems.
- Knowledge of debugging protocols and processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and issues identified by customers and implement corrective actions.
Travel to client locations is required for this position and may vary based on project needs.
