Job DescriptionAs the Director of Delivery Operations for the Engineering Delivery Group, you will be a key leader in driving technology transformation within a highly collaborative and inclusive team. You will be responsible for standardizing delivery processes across multiple delivery platforms, leveraging agile methodologies and modern delivery tools to ensure efficiency, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Your role will focus on setting and tracking performance metrics to measure delivery success, quality, and team productivity. You will manage diverse talent—including in‑house technical teams, leading contract workers, and partnering with top‑tier software development companies—to deliver innovative solutions supporting Abb Vie’s R&D and the discovery of life‑changing therapeutics.
By fostering a culture of open communication and accountability, you will create and implement a unified vision for technology delivery at Abb Vie, ensuring best practices in project management, resource allocation, and agile execution. Your leadership will empower teams to deliver complex technology solutions that advance Abb Vie’s mission of improving patient outcomes worldwide.
- Strategy & Influence – Work with domain senior leadership and contribute to developing strategy. Adapt and execute domain strategic plans.
- Process Improvement & Optimization – Drive opportunities to improve process and/or technology.
- Decisions & Policies – Make key decisions guided by established strategies and priorities. Influence operating policies that affect the domain.
- People Management – Recruit, coach, and develop teams of managers and senior managers who have significant latitude and autonomy.
- Financial Management – Direct and control the activities and budget of functional areas, divisions, and product groups.
- Process Management – Provide usage optimization and process framework leadership for application development methodologies—including UI frameworks, cloud technology usage, and agile, Dev Ops, and CI/CD.
- Impact – Make quick, flexible decisions that influence the future course of the business and technology domain.
- Resource Management – Determine delivery resource management strategy and organizational structure.
- Liaison & Relationship Building – Build collaborative relationships and effectively interact with business and technology senior leaders.
- Culture – Consistently demonstrate Abb Vie’s Ways of Working and Leadership Attributes. Manage performance, provide timely feedback, and create a succession pipeline.
- Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years experience OR Master’s Degree and 9 years experience OR PhD and 5 years experience.
- Effectively connect employee and business functional goals to business and overall Abb Vie goals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to drive outstanding employee performance and engagement through coaching, motivating, energizing, and inspiring team members.
- Experience managing teams of at least 10 people with a resource mix of managers, employees, matrixed teams, virtual teams, contractors, and managed service providers.
- Ability to communicate problems in understandable terms to leadership and end users at all levels.
- Subject matter expert in technology and/or business domain.
- Experience managing a budget of at least $10 million.
- Experience in technology operation, strategy, planning and implementation and/or relevant business domain preferred.
- Competitive base pay with a range based on geographic location. Bonus, commission, and incentive programs may apply.
