Job Link: The Abb Vie Discovery organization is seeking to hire a genomic technology expert within the Target Enabling Science and Technology Department’s Genomics Research Center (GRC). The successful candidate will be part of a growing core technology team dedicated to running centralized genomic technology platforms in support of multiple disease biology groups. The team will be responsible for developing and applying genomic technologies to support target , target validation, model characterization, and compound MOA.
Major technology platforms will include Illumina next generation sequencing (NGS) and Affymetrix Gene Chip. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out genomic profiling experiments and communicating results to stakeholders and collaborators.
- Perform genomic profiling analysis with the highest standards of scientific rigor.
- Collaborate to design the best possible experiments.
- Deliver high quality data and results under agreed upon timelines.
- Process and perform QC analysis of samples from tissues and cells.
- Perform initial data QC and first pass analysis of results.
- Partner with bioinformatics specialists and disease area scientists to interpret results and design follow up experiments.
- Operate and maintain genomic technology platforms within centralized technology group.
- Effectively communicate with stakeholders, especially around trouble‑shooting and responding to changes in priorities and adjusting timelines.
- Prepare written summaries of experimental results and verbally present in team meetings.
- Keep current on rapidly evolving genomic technology platforms, especially DNA microarrays, RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq, and digital PCR. Contribute to technology development efforts as needs arise.
- Work with external CROs and technology providers as needed to complement internal capabilities and address spikes in demand.
- MS in molecular biology, genomic sciences or a related field with 5+ years of experience, or BS with 7+ years of experience.
- Strong record of hands‑on experience and technical knowledge of genomic profiling technologies, including but not limited to: RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq, Affymetrix Gene Chips, and Next Gen PCR technologies.
- Experience being part of a centralized technology group is desirable.
- Industry experience is desired but willing to consider individuals with equivalent years of experience in academic or non-industry research settings.
- Expert and detailed knowledge of genomic sample processing, sample QC, genomic profiling data QC and analytical methods.
- Familiarity with LIMS, sample tracking and workflow optimization.
- High attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of teams.
- Ability to work in fast‑paced, dynamic environment and to independently carry forward multiple projects in parallel.
- Builds strong relationships with peers and cross‑functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance
- Learns fast, grasps the ‘essence’ and can change the course quickly where indicated
