Abb Vie Oncology Discovery Research is at the forefront of cancer research, discovering and developing the next generation of treatments for patients with unmet needs. Our robust pipeline spans small molecules and biologics, including first-in-class agents directed at pathways critical to the survival and growth of solid and hematologic tumors.
We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Scientist I/II with expertise in cell and molecular biology to join our growing team in Lake County, Illinois. This laboratory-focused role will contribute to the discovery and validation of novel cancer targets using state-of-the-art functional genomics and ‘omics technologies. The successful candidate will have a strong record of scientific achievement, extensive hands-on research experience, and knowledge of signal transduction and/or oncogene sis.
The role requires excellent communication, effective collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment, and the ability to prioritize and advance multiple research activities.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Exercise scientific initiative and creativity to identify research opportunities, develop hypotheses, and advance discovery activities.
- Independently plan and execute laboratory research and method-development activities, seeking input from the supervisor and project team as appropriate.
- Integrate multidisciplinary data, draw scientifically rigorous conclusions, and design follow-up experiments that advance project objectives.
- Demonstrate proficiency across a broad range of relevant technologies and rapidly learn and apply new experimental approaches.
- Deliver high-quality experimental results while identifying and resolving technical hurdles efficiently.
Qualifications:
- Scientist I:
Bachelor’s Degree with typically 5 years of experience, or master’s degree with typically two years of experience. - Scientist II:
Bachelor’s Degree with typically 7 or more years of experience or master’s degree with typically 5 or more years of experience. - Ability to execute a broad range of cell-based and molecular assays, with exceptional proficiency in mammalian cell culture.
- Growth mindset demonstrated through openness to feedback, adaptability, and learning from setbacks.
- Demonstrated proficiency in state-of-the-art functional genomics and ‘omics technologies, including CRISPR-based screening, RNA sequencing, and deep mutational scanning.
- Strong knowledge of signal transduction and/or oncogenic mechanisms is required.
- Proven ability to maintain scientific rigor and deliver results across concurrent priorities.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across scientific disciplines and contribute constructively to teams.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly present experimental results, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Drug discovery and/or translational research experience is preferred.
