Job Title
Land Surveyor – Hyperscale Data Center – Actalent
Position SummaryBe the precision backbone for an electrical scope that must hit millimeter accuracy. As the Land Surveyor embedded with an electrical contractor on a hyperscale campus, you’ll own control networks, layout, and as‑built verification for duct banks, manholes, vaults, equipment pads, grounding grids, MV/LV feeders, and critical penetrations—ensuring installations match design and commissioning timelines without rework.
Responsibilities- Control & Layout:
Establish/maintain primary and secondary control; stake and verify alignment/elevation for underground and above‑grade electrical work (duct banks, pad‑mounted gear, generator/UPS pads, busway supports). - Interface Coordination:
Tie electrical layout to civil/structural controls; validate embeds, sleeves, and penetrations before pours; coordinate with GC survey teams and MEP/BIM coordination. - As‑Built & QA/QC:
Perform field checks and produce redlines/as‑built records; reconcile deviations and document conformance for turnover packages. - Data & Documentation:
Collect GNSS/RTK/total station data; manage uploads into CAD/Civil 3D or equivalent; maintain stake sheets, control reports, and layout logs. - Issue Resolution:
Support RFIs, site walks, and troubleshooting with project engineers, foremen, and subcontractors; assist with material takeoffs that depend on verified quantities. - Equipment Readiness:
Calibrate and maintain instruments, batteries, and accessories; keep survey vehicles stocked and site‑ready. - Safety & Compliance:
Follow all site safety protocols and traffic plans; align field work with electrical and utility standards.
- 3–7+ years of land/construction surveying on large commercial/industrial projects; mission‑critical or data center experience preferred.
- Proficiency with total stations, GNSS/RTK workflows, and control adjustments;
Civil 3D (or similar) and Bluebeam for documentation. - Strong knowledge of construction tolerances and interfaces affecting electrical installations; familiarity with NEC/utility standards is a plus.
- Ability to interpret IFC/shop drawings and compute coordinates for precise layout.
- SIT/LS licensure or ability to work under a licensed surveyor preferred.
- Field‑based role on an active hyperscale campus; fast‑paced schedule with close coordination across civil, structural, and electrical teams.
- Own the accuracy that keeps energization and commissioning on track.
- Work at the intersection of surveying, BIM‑enabled coordination, and mission‑critical delivery.
- Advance within a high‑demand specialty where precision and performance are recognized.
- 100 MW of critical IT load live (first building)—commissioned in two 50 MW phases
- Campus capacity: 400 MW planned at full build‑out
- Leased under a ~$11 billion, 15‑year agreement—initially 250 MW, later expanded to full capacity
- Ultra‑efficient design with liquid cooling, near‑zero water usage, and projected $2.7 billion in lifecycle cost savings over 30 years
- On a record pace—first 50 MW operational in late October, second phase shortly thereafter
