Job Summary
This position offers an exciting opportunity to leverage your expertise in marine piping systems, 3D modeling, and ship design to support major maritime projects. You will be instrumental in creating precise, build-ready piping layouts that meet rigorous industry standards, ensuring the successful delivery of innovative ships for a prominent U.S. shipbuilding program.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed piping designs, arrangements, and system layouts for new vessel construction, utilizing 2D and 3D modeling tools.
- Create isometrics, spool drawings, penetration details, supports, and routing plans to facilitate fabrication and installation.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, planning, and production teams to ensure designs are practical and constructable.
- Support pipe routing across various ship compartments, including machinery spaces, tanks, voids, bilges, and deck systems.
- Review vendor data and equipment drawings, integrating components seamlessly into the ship model.
- Ensure all designs comply with ABS, USCG, and shipyard standards and requirements.
- Assist in resolving field discrepancies and participate in design reviews, model walk-throughs, and QA/QC processes.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of experience as a piping designer within shipbuilding, marine engineering, offshore, or related heavy industrial environments.
- Proficiency in Ship Constructor, AutoCAD, or similar 3D/2D design software.
- Strong knowledge of marine piping standards, system design, and equipment integration.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment specifications, and classification requirements.
- Understanding of shipyard production processes and constructability best practices.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with engineering, planning, and production teams.
- Proven track record of producing accurate, fabrication-ready deliverables.
- Willingness to work in an active shipyard environment, including on-vessel verification, with comfort using PPE, ladders, and working in confined spaces.
