Shipbuilding Electrical Manager

This pivotal role involves overseeing engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and coordinating cross‑functional teams throughout all phases of shipbuilding. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in marine electrical systems and proven leadership in managing electrical engineering teams, contributing to the successful delivery of complex maritime projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the electrical engineering and design functions for assigned vessel programs, including review and approval of schematics, cable routing, load analysis, lighting, controls, switchboards, and distribution systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers, designers, subcontractors, and production teams to ensure high‑quality deliverables.
  • Ensure all electrical systems meet standards set by ABS, USCG, IEEE, and shipyard regulations.
  • Coordinate with planning, production, QA, and project management to resolve technical issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Support the integration of shipboard systems such as generators, automation, navigation, communication, and propulsion interfaces.
  • Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and technical evaluations to mitigate issues early in the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Manage project‑level electrical documentation, progress tracking, and technical reporting.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in marine electrical design, integration, or engineering within shipbuilding, offshore, or naval environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience supervising electrical design teams.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical; experience with Ship Constructor is advantageous.
  • Deep knowledge of power generation, distribution, lighting, controls, automation, and marine electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USCG rules, classification standards, and marine regulatory compliance.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, production, vendors, and project teams.
  • Ability to analyze complex electrical issues and develop practical, buildable solutions.
  • Willingness to work in an active shipyard environment, including on‑vessel inspections, confined spaces, and climbing ladders while wearing PPE.
