Water Meter Reader

Position Overview

We are hiring WATER METER READERS in postcodes G67 - G68, full‑time, with no experience required.

As a Water Meter Reader you will be responsible for collecting data from water meters for both commercial and residential properties. You will update meter reads accurately throughout the day on a handheld device and provide excellent customer service.

• £13.01 - £13.85 per hour basic pay.
• 40‑45 hours per week with flexible start and finish times between 8am and 8pm.
• Average annual earnings £27,000 to £31,000.
• Bonus scheme: up to £1,000 monthly.
• Hours of work mostly Monday‑Friday (occasionally Saturday).
• Weekly payment.
• Overtime rates (£16‑£25) at manager's discretion.
• Business expenses reimbursed.

• No previous experience required.

• Up to 28 days holiday per year based on accrual.
• Full uniform and PPE provided.

• Full training will be provided.

• Full UK Driving Licence – minimum 1 year and maximum 6 points, no DR offences (driving licence not required in some areas in London).
• Physically fit – expect to walk an average of 5‑6 miles per day, lift manholes for water meters, climb stairs and crouch, bend in tight spaces.
• Happy to work in all weather conditions.
• Clear DBS check (no unspent criminal convictions).
• Credit Report check (no county court judgements, IVA, debt relief orders recorded for last 6 years).
• Previous customer service experience (preferred, not essential).

• Retrieving data from domestic, commercial and industrial sites for water meters.
• 75% of the meters will be external.
• Meter reads are all commercial properties including hospitals, schools, shopping precincts and other non‑household sites.
• May involve heavier lifting due to larger manholes.
• Friendly personality with a professional approach to work.
• Adhering to health and safety guidelines at all times.

Training is one week, combining classroom‑based and field‑based sessions with an experienced meter reader.
