Undergraduate Designer and 3D Printer Modeler (Associate in Engineering – Levels I – IV)
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). THIS IS A CASUAL POSITION WORKING A MAXIMUM OF 900 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR.
Undergraduate Engineering Interns will work under the direct supervision of a manager & mentor and will be provided with hands‑on participation in ongoing projects at one of the most unique experimental sites in the United States, or one of our outlying location sites.
We are looking for qualified and motivated Undergrad students pursuing a degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
Duties and responsibilities (may include and will vary depending on which department you are assigned to):
- Support research on systems.
- Perform document reviews and updates.
- Create Facility Change Requests to implement desired changes to various systems.
- Day‑to‑day activities will center mostly on data collection. Type of data to be gathered will depend on the project/assignment.
- Provide Computer Aided Design (CAD) support to a variety of projects using Solid Works and/or Creo 2D and 3D modeling software.
- During the execution of technical designs and the development of drawings the student will be coordinating with engineers and scientists executing stockpile experimental projects.
- Opportunities will be provided to model and build 3D printed parts for experiments using a Stratasys J850 3D printer.
- December 18th, 2025 – Last day for student internship applications to be accepted
- May 19th, 2026 – Summer internship Student Program begins
- August 7th, 2026 – Summer internship Student Program concludes
Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.
- Completion of first year Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), as of the date application is submitted
- or Completion of first year in a Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering, as of the date application is submitted.
- Must be actively enrolled in school, as of the date application is submitted.
- Must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, as of the date application is submitted.
- Must be located in the contiguous United States.
- Must have:
- Planning/organizing skills and initiative
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of engineering equipment, software, systems, calculations, and applications of engineering methods.
- Have self‑motivating attitude and is open to exploring all areas of engineering.
- Ability to follow directions, both written and verbal, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Experience with 3D printing
- Experience with Computer Aided Design
- Strong computer skills are desired, including MS Office and computer programming.
- A pre‑placement drug screen is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
