- Collaborate with LANL, LLNL, and SNL to define functional/non‑functional requirements and document constraints.
- Develop component hierarchy and asset management plans for the Scorpius accelerator.
- Integrate CREO design documents into a cohesive model.
- Document structure, components, and interrelationships of the Scorpius system.
- Perform verification and validation testing.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Troubleshoot and problem‑solve during installation, commissioning, and operations.
- Maintain configuration management documentation over a 30‑year lifecycle.
- Coordinate with engineers, technicians, vendors, and laboratory partners.
- Prepare administrative and technical documents.
- Participate in regulatory investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
- Frequent travel to NNSS forward areas (≈30 mi beyond Mercury gate).
- Develop practical solutions, evaluate standards, and produce technical proposals.
- Lead teams and coordinate with other project teams.
- Interpret codes, standards, advanced software, and unique processes.
- Resolve highly complex problems, integrating unconventional technology and cross‑disciplinary solutions.
- Provide operational expertise and oversee testing and problem‑solving.
- Keep current with technological developments.
- Bachelor’s degree in an accredited ABET civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering program, or a STEM bachelor’s.
- Or Professional Engineer license.
- 5+ years of relevant experience for Senior (9+ years for Principal). Experience managing complex industrial or scientific machinery preferred.
- Systems engineering in a technical or research and development environment preferred.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results within established timelines.
- Proven ability to integrate electrical, mechanical, and control systems in large complex machinery.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand drawings.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Highly accomplished technical writing skills and affinity for producing procedures and documentation.
- Strong problem‑analysis and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, follow written and verbal instructions, and work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft suite of software.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Working knowledge of Creo CAD and drafting (CADD) software and Windchill PDM.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Maximo or a similar enterprise asset management (EAM) system.
- Experience in digitally twinning technologies and its application to complex systems.
- Knowledge of risk management principles as applied to asset health and operational reliability.
- Strong understanding of lifecycle management principles, including design, acquisition, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
- Experience working in a team environment that includes scientists, engineers, technicians, designers, and Craft/maintenance personnel.
- Experience with accelerator facilities, research infrastructure, or other highly specialized scientific equipment is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Department of Energy (DOE) regulations and requirements related to asset management and facility operations a plus.
- Primary work location:
Losee Road facility, North Las Vegas, Nevada. Frequent visits to NNSS (≈90 mi). - Travel up to 25% to LANL, LLNL, and SNL.
