position summary

the director of palliative and primary care
is an advanced practice registered nurse practitioner (aprn) with prescriptive authority, who develops and manages the arkansas palliative and primary care programs. The director of palliative and primary care may also, in collaboration with the chief medical officer (cmo) and other physicians, provide direct patient care in a variety of settings (i.e., private home, nursing home, hospital). This position will be 50% administrative and 50% clinical.

qualifications

education: bachelor’s degree in nursing; master’s degree preferred.

licensure: advanced practice registered nurse practitioner licensed in arkansas; prescriptive authority required.

experience
: minimum of two years of rn or aprn palliative care experience preferred. Minimum of two years administrative experience preferred.

additional requirements
: valid arkansas driver’s license, personal automobile insurance, current tb skin test, ability to travel extensively and work flexible hours.

primary responsibilities - administrative

  • leads, develops and coordinates all palliative and primary care department initiatives and programs.
  • performs all supervisory responsibilities for non-physician members of the palliative and primary care staff.
  • develop, align, and mobilize members to successfully achieve clinical, operational, and strategic priorities for the organization.
  • establish program structures for accountability with scheduled staff assignment oversight in all locations.
  • completes performance evaluations for all assigned staff in a timely manner.
  • assesses and makes necessary updates to the palliative and primary care staff organization to best benefit patient care.
  • updates all palliative and primary care staff job descriptions as needed.
  • meets regularly with palliative and primary care staff to create departmental policies, procedures, and protocols, to educate on current trends and clinical knowledge, and to discuss operational challenges.
  • maintains and updates all clinical forms related to palliative and primary care.
  • manages departmental fte’s within established guidelines including controlling agency and overtime expenses.
  • identifies and develops advancement/succession planning for hiring, training and retention of staff.
  • responsible for the identification and realization of program opportunities through reduction of variation in cost, quality, and resource utilization by working collaboratively with all contracted organizations to ensure effective communication.
  • in cooperation with the clinical and administrative management team, develops, recommends, and implements required palliative and primary care policies and procedures.
