Under the direction of the Village Manager, the Director of Planning & Economic Development is responsible for the administration, direction, and supervision of the overall operation of the Planning & Economic Development Department to ensure strategic growth of the built environment, protection of the natural environment, and adherence to the Village’s Code of Ordinances.

• Manages and directs the operations of the Planning & Economic Development Department including Planning and Code Compliance functions; assigns caseloads, establishes work schedules and supervises staff; reviews and evaluates job performance and makes recommendations as appropriate.
• Develops the Village’s comprehensive strategic plan to include business attraction and retention strategies, data on business conditions, neighborhood commercial development opportunities and financing proposals, loans or grant programs.
• Manages economic development plans, policies, programs, projects, and activities of the Village.
• Develops and implements Village-wide revitalization and economic development initiatives.
• Develops and implements new zoning regulations as conditions change in the development environment.
• Establishes partnerships with the business community and local agencies to identify and increase economic development opportunities.
• Facilitates consensus building among diverse business and agency stakeholders and initiates and implements strategies to establish the Village as a business-friendly community.
• Identifies local, state, and federal grants and other incentives available to new businesses and growth for existing businesses.
• Assists in promoting and implementing the Village’s annexation plan as outlined in the Village’s Comprehensive Plan.
• Acts as a liaison with private and public stakeholders to promote economic development plans, goals, strategies, and projects and works in coordination with the Business Advisory Board.
• Develops and implements strategies that promote and communicate economic development in the Village to citizens and businesses.
• Reviews economic development financial proposals and pro-formas for reasonableness, accuracy, and feasibility.
• Functions as a liaison with the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce, Business Development Board, Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Palm Beach County, and Palm Beach Metropolitan Planning Organization. Develops alliances with key business sectors.
• Assists private developers and business owners with site planning, zoning, platting, variances, incentives, and other regulatory issues associated with redevelopment and economic development.
• Monitors the site plan process and code compliance functions of the Village. Works with builders, developers, and the general public on development related issues.
• Oversees the regulation and issuance of business tax receipts.
• Represents or designates a representative of the Village on various boards and committees such as the Code Compliance Special Magistrate;
  Planning, Zoning, and Adjustment Board;
  Business Advisory Board;
  Waterways Board, and Environmental Committee.
• Oversees preparation of information and logistical coordination for Code Compliance Special Magistrate meetings.
• Develops specifications for, coordinates the review of, and administers contracts with consultants and other contractors who will provide services associated with the functions of Planning & Economic Development.
• Responsible for providing high-quality, responsive customer service to both internal and external customers of the department. Expected to promote interdepartmental collaboration, build employee morale, and foster a workplace culture of integrity.
• Provides overall department leadership in a manner that supports the Village's mission and values, and fosters a service-minded collaborative environment.
• Plans, develops, implements, and administers the Department’s operating budget, ensuring adherence to established budgetary parameters.
• Performs routine personnel tasks, i.e., interviewing, hiring, disciplining employees, evaluating staff performance and recommending terminations.
