Outside Plant Engineer

The Engineer II is responsible for designing and preparing Engineering Work Orders for various projects, including land developments, new buildings, single line requests, government and safety projects, preservation, rehab, DSL, FTTN, FTTH, FTTT, road relocation, and circuit requests. Tools used include Bidmaster/Fireworks, JDS, FORTE, NDTT, ARMOR, NDS, and ACAD.

Responsibilities include preparing detailed field notes for OSP projects, applying for permits from governing authorities, and maintaining positive interactions with internal and external customers. The role requires collaboration with Planning and other departments to ensure high-quality service delivery.

The engineer will manage workload within a designated area and may need to work additional hours as required. A valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is necessary.

• Experience in communications OSP engineering.
• Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, ACAD, and legacy systems.
• Ability to work with Planning, Operations, and other stakeholders, managing budgets and forecasting.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ownership of projects from inception to completion, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Ability to negotiate time frames and perform under pressure.
• Must demonstrate the ability to perform work with minimal supervision.

Preferred qualifications include previous experience in a multi-tasking, deadline-driven environment, at least five years of applicable engineering experience related to RUS, and experience with outside plant construction (aerial, buried, underground, utility).
