Overview

The terminal operator unloads bulk cement into silos from railroad cars, controls selection and loading of cement into trucks on scale, weighs trucks, prepares shipping orders, certificates of compliance, sample information and bills of landing via computer entry. May measure cement levels in silos; all job duties are performed while complying with all applicable mining regulations and/or Mountain Cement policies at all times.

Basic qualifications and/or traits that the shipping operator must possess include:

  • Must be able to perform basic mathematics with accuracy.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude, maintenance experience preferred.
  • Have reliable attendance and safety records.
  • Be able to work without constant supervision.
  • Be able to give and take directions.
  • Must be able to work with the public in person and over the telephone in an efficient and courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of safe and productive operation of mobile equipment.
  • Must be physically fit.
Responsibilities
  • Safety inspections of all working areas shall be performed a minimum of once per shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional inspections may be performed as conditions warrant.
  • Prepares railroad bulk cars for unloading. Inspects and cleans interiors of bulk cars when necessary. Reports damage or adverse conditions to supervisor. Opens and closes bottom hatches of bulk cars as required.
  • May move rail cars and spot trucks to facilitate loading operations. Required both manually; move railcars with manual tool designed for moving rail equipment.
  • Obtain cement samples from each rail car. Seals rail car hatches. Delivers samples to shipping office for storage.
  • Operate cement extraction and conveying system machinery as required to provide cement loadout.
  • Performs operations checks and lubrication on all conveying equipment; air slides, screw conveyors, drives, dust collectors, loading spouts, railroad rail, etc. reporting adverse conditions to supervisor.
  • May occasionally clean silo interiors.
  • Repair pumps, screws, bucket elevators, air slides, dust collectors, loading spouts, and hoppers.
  • Clean up of work areas by the shipping operator is to be performed daily to remove slip/trip/fall hazards.
Physical Requirements
  • Working 8 hour – 12 hour shifts.
  • Working in areas of heat, cold, muddy, icy, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Subject to twisting, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing.
  • Access silos via elevator and stairway up several flights of stairs several times per day or via a 200FT tall ladder.
  • Travel routes may include stairs, catwalks, ladders, elevated walkways, and uneven floors.
  • May be subject to lifting up to 95lbs.
