The West Central Research, Extension and Education Center (WCREEC) in North Platte, NE serves as the site for field-based research and extension activities that deliver research-based education and information to citizens throughout the state. We consider ourselves the front door to the University for those we serve in west central Nebraska.
As a
Research Farm Project Coordinator
, you will:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the research farm activities among the faculty at the Center and/or UNL campus and other universities, interested companies, and individuals.
- Facilitate field plot layout and design, and working with faculty to order seed for corn, soybean, and wheat production.
- Collaborate with faculty in the preparation, treatment application, planting, irrigation, harvesting, maintenance, data collection, data analysis and record keeping of farm acres.
- Responsible for managing the bidding process for pesticides and fertilizer.
- Partner with the Farm Service Agency for crop insurance purposes, collect data and report field location, crops, date planted, and yields for each field of wheat, corn, and soybeans at the end of the growing season for insurance underwriting purposes.
- Report crop losses due to weather events and ensure insurance payments are processed correctly.
- Collect weather data daily and report information to the National Weather Bureau.
- Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of farm equipment and building facilities.
- Assist with facility tours, workshops and field days to highlight facility research.
This position requires irregular hours and work in inclement weather. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as a Research Project Coordinator.

- Bachelor's degree in agriculture production, agronomy, or related field; plus three (3) years of experience in agricultural production, agronomy, or related work. Additional years of completed relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Knowledge of agricultural practices to enable best farming outcomes.
- Knowledge of soil sampling to determine application rates for fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
- Mechanical knowledge and skill to diagnose and maintain equipment such as planters, sprayers, grain carts, combines, tractors, trucks, etc.
- Experience must demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail.
- Word processing and spreadsheet software program skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet University driver eligibility requirements.
- Ability to obtain a chemigation license, commercial pesticide applicator’s license, and commercial driver’s license within six months of employment.
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Project management and/or supervisory experience.
- Current Commercial Driver's License.
