About the Position
Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift at North Port Behavioral Health, a premier mental health and substance use disorder hospital located in North Port, FL. The role involves providing 24‑hour nursing care for patients with behavioral disorders and addiction disorders in our newly built 144‑bed inpatient psychiatric facility.
Day in the Life of a Registered Nurse (RN)As an RN you will interact with patients and their families, create treatment plans, complete shift reports, round/monitor in the milieu, administer medications, coordinate with BHAs, and manage incidents. Responsibilities also include completing nursing assessments, ensuring regulatory compliance, and documenting all care activities.
Patient Population & Work SchedulePopulation:
Adolescents (13‑17), Adults (18+), and Seniors (55+).
Work Schedule:
12‑hour night shifts (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) with rotating weekends.

Purpose StatementThe clinical professional facilitates admissions, clinical intake assessments, and utilization review processes to ensure continuity of appropriate care and effective resource utilization for patients.
Registered Nurse Essential Functions- Provide and coordinate care by assessing patients’ physical and behavioral health needs.
- Develop and implement nursing care plans.
- Maintain medical records and educate patients and families about health conditions.
- Deliver nursing care within the scope of nursing practice as defined by state and facility regulations.
- Ensure physicians’ orders are legible and accurately transcribed.
- Continuously assess patients’ status and document pertinent information.
- Notify physicians of significant changes in patient status or emergent situations.
- Complete initial nursing treatment plans upon admission, tailored to assessed needs.
- Apply universal precautions in direct patient care.
- Accurately administer medications per ordered note and document controlled substance administration.
- Process admissions and discharges efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain therapeutic rapport while respecting professional boundaries.
- Coordinate unit activities as directed.
- Communicate therapeutically and professionally with patients, visitors, co‑workers, and others involved in inpatient treatment.
- Graduated from an accredited nursing school.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license as required by the state of employment.
- Minimum one year of nursing experience; psychiatric, mental, behavioral, or substance use disorder (SUD) experience is a plus.
- CPR, de‑escalation, and restraint certification required (training available upon hire).
- First aid certification may be required based on state or facility requirements.
