Seasonal Lifeguard

General Description

This position ensures a safe and positive pool environment by preventing and responding to emergencies, performing rescue and first aid, and maintaining the aquatic facility and surrounding area.

• Assist with maintaining a safe aquatic facility, including providing real‑time feedback and suggestions to supervisors.
• Follow direction from the Head Lifeguard or designee regarding placement and rotations during shifts.
• Guard and protect participants within all aquatic facilities, administering first aid and lifesaving measures per industry standards.
• Complete housekeeping, general maintenance tasks, logs, and reports as directed.
• Model standards and expectations throughout the shift.
• Maintain post until relieved by another guard.
• Respond quickly to any potential emergency situation.
• Attend regular in‑service trainings, meetings, and other required training sessions.
• Assist in instructional classes, programs, and special events (part‑time positions).

• Swim at least 500 yards.
• Physically perform all lifeguard duties.
• Detect noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
• Observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility.
• Recognize swimmers in need of assistance.
• Recognize, respond to, and remedy unsafe situations.
• Work with diverse populations and age groups.

• Minimum age of 16.
• Previous experience as a lifeguard or swim lesson instructor preferred.

• Obtain nationally accredited lifeguard certification within 14 days of hire.
• Obtain Basic Life Support and First Aid certifications within 14 days of hire.

All employees may be called upon for emergency response operations requiring irregular hours and relocation. Duties may include those beyond the official job description.
