Overview
Therapeutic Recreation Specialist - SJH at Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. Provides Therapeutic Recreational Services to patients of all ages including adolescents, adults and geriatric patients who are referred. Evaluates the Therapeutic Recreational needs of the patient; develops goals and treatment plan in conjunction with the patient and family/significant other; executes treatment program; provides education to patients, families and caregivers; supervises Therapeutic Recreation students in compliance with hospital, national and state regulatory policies.
QualificationsEducation: Bachelor of Science (4 year Therapeutic Recreation Degree) or Bachelor of Arts (4 year degree related field to Therapeutic Recreation) and specific courses taken in Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation (Equivalency Academic Process).
Licensure: Certification by the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation (NCTRC) as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist;
Current certification in CPR. No state licensure required.
Experience: Experience in inpatient rehabilitation setting preferred. Therapeutic Recreation theory, evaluation and treatment techniques, group dynamics, activity analysis and ability to develop a therapeutic relationship with a variety of patients.
Responsibilities- Evaluate patient therapeutic needs and develop goals and treatment plans with patient and family.
- Execute treatment program and provide education to patients, families and caregivers.
- Supervise Therapeutic Recreation students in accordance with hospital, national and state regulatory policies.
- Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA) and demonstrate strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Organizational and priority-setting skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines.
- Effective interpersonal communication, considering cultural background, linguistic skills and age of patients.
- Maintain information confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Demonstrated customer service skills and responsive service delivery.
- Ability to communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
Visual acuity and hand dexterity; physical ability to perform a variety of movements including stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking, twisting, stretching and reaching. Physical ability to push, pull and lift more than 30 lbs.
